About
The Bulgarian Cultural Society in Sweden (BKD – Sweden) was founded in 2013 and works to preserve and develop Bulgarian culture and language in Stockholm. Its activity centres on two areas: the First Bulgarian Sunday School “Yan Bibiyan” and a folk dance group for adults.
The First Bulgarian Sunday School “Yan Bibiyan” gives children of the Bulgarian community in Sweden the chance to study the Bulgarian language and other subjects and helps them keep their connection with Bulgaria. In 2025 it became the first school in Sweden, and the second in Scandinavia, to be included in the official list of Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad kept by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.
The society has had new leadership since 2024. After the building where its activities were held closed in December 2025, it moved to the ABF-huset in Stockholm.
